Some puzzles have hundreds or even thousands of pieces and that can be enough to scare some people away. First of all, take the time to study the image on the box. Focus on the image's key figures since they will serve as a "landmark" when you begin putting everything together. Don't forget the finer details either. They often give people the most trouble when they're putting the picture together. You should also take the time to separate the pieces by color. Although it doesn't work for every puzzle, you can be reasonably confident that pieces that are the same color will fit together.
When it comes time to put the pieces together, start with the edges. Those will be the easiest to recognize since they will have straight edges. You should have a nice outer border if you fit the edges together. From there, it's just a matter of working inward until you complete the puzzle.
